**C++ for Mathematicians free download by Scheinerman E.**

For problems that require extensive computation, a C++ program can race through billions of examples faster than most other computing choices. C++ enables mathematicians of virtually any discipline to create programs to meet their needs quickly, and is av...

**Rigor and Structure free pdf by John P. Burgess**

While we are commonly told that the distinctive method of mathematics is rigorous proof, and that the special topic of mathematics is abstract structure, there has been no agreement among mathematicians, logicians, or philosophers as to just what either o...

**Thermodynamic Formalism: The Mathematical Structure of Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics free download by David Ruelle**

Reissued in the Cambridge Mathematical Library this classic book outlines the theory of thermodynamic formalism....

**An Introduction to Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations download pdf by J. David Logan**

Praise for the First Edition: "This book is well conceived and well written. The author has succeeded in producing a text on nonlinear PDEs that is not only quite readable but also accessible to students from diverse backgrounds." —SIAM Review A practica...

**Introduction to Probability with Statistical Applications download pdf by Geza Schay**

This textbook is an introduction to probability and statistics for non-mathematics majors who do not need the exhaustive detail and mathematical depth provided in more comprehensive treatments of the subject. The presentation covers the mathematical laws ...

**The Geometry of Hessian Structures pdf free by Hirohiko Shima**

The geometry of Hessian structures is a fascinating emerging field of research. It is in particular a very close relative of Kahlerian geometry, and connected with many important pure mathematical branches such as affine differential geometry, homogeneous...

**Introduction to the Mathematical and Statistical Foundations of Econometrics free epub by Herman J. Bierens**

This book is intended for use in a rigorous introductory PhD level course in econometrics, or in a field course in econometric theory. It covers the measure-theoretical foundation of probability theory, the multivariate normal distribution with its applic...

**An Introduction to Numerical Analysis for Electrical and Computer Engineers free download by Christopher J. Zarowski**

An engineer’s guide to numerical analysis To properly function in today’s work environment, engineers require a working familiarity with numerical analysis. This book provides that necessary background, striking a balance between analytical rigor and an...

**An Introduction to Echo Analysis: Scattering Theory and Wave Propagation pdf free by Emeritus Professor G. F. Roach BSc;MSc; PhD; DSc; ScD; FRSE; FRAS; C.Math; FIMA; FRSA (auth.)**

The use of various types of wave energy is an increasingly promising, non-destructive means of detecting objects and of diagnosing the properties of quite complicated materials. An analysis of this technique requires an understanding of how waves evolve i...

**Visual Basic® 2005 for Programmers: Deitel® Developer Series download pdf by Harvey M. Deitel, Paul J. Deitel**

Written for C#, C++, Java or other-high level language programmers, this book applies the Deitel signature live-code approach to teaching programming and explores Microsoft's Visual Basic language and the new .NET 2.0 in depth. The book is updated for Vis...

**The Medical Student’s Guide to the Plain Chest Film free download by Edwin Donnelly**

This book is designed to provide the medical student a simple yet systemized approach to interpreting the plain chest radiograph. The book teaches the normal anatomy as well as a systematic approach that can (and should) be used to evaluate every chest fi...

**What’s So Good About Biodiversity?: A Call for Better Reasoning About Nature’s Value free download by Donald S. Maier (auth.)**

There has been a deluge of material on biodiversity, starting from a trickle back in the mid-1980's. However, this book is entirely unique in its treatment of the topic. It is unique in its meticulously crafted, scientifically informed, philosophical exam...

**Processing of Solid–Liquid Suspensions free download by P. Ayazi Shamlou (Eds.)**

At some stage in most process operations solids and liquids are brought into contact for processing. How they behave in these situations is of great importance to the process as a whole. Based on the collective experience of international industrialists a...

**The United Kingdom — The United Nations pdf free by Erik Jensen, Thomas Fisher (eds.)**

A study of the relationship between the United Kingdom and the United Nations. Topics covered include the UK's involvement in the United Nations peace-keeping forces and co-operation and confrontation between the UK and the UN over the subject of decoloni...

This is a textbook for a one-term course whose goal is to ease the transition from lower-division calculus courses to upper-division courses in linear and abstract algebra, real and complex analysis, number theory, topology, combinatorics, and so on. Without such a "bridge" course, most upper division instructors feel the need to start their courses with the rudiments of logic, set theory, equivalence relations, and other basic mathematical raw materials before getting on with the subject at hand. Students who are new to higher mathematics are often startled to discover that mathematics is a subject of ideas, and not just formulaic rituals, and that they are now expected to understand and create mathematical proofs. Mastery of an assortment of technical tricks may have carried the students through calculus, but it is no longer a guarantee of academic success. Students need experience in working with abstract ideas at a nontrivial level if they are to achieve the sophisticated blend of knowledge, disci pline, and creativity that we call "mathematical maturity. " I don't believe that "theorem-proving" can be taught any more than "question-answering" can be taught. Nevertheless, I have found that it is possible to guide stu dents gently into the process of mathematical proof in such a way that they become comfortable with the experience and begin asking them selves questions that will lead them in the right direction.
